What is TMS? TMS, or transcranial magnetic stimulation, is a non-invasive type of brain stimulation therapy that has been shown to be effective in treating depression. It uses magnetic fields to stimulate specific areas of the brain that are thought to be involved in mood regulation, and has been approved by the FDA for use in treating depression. TMS is often used as a treatment option for people who have not responded well to other forms of depression treatment, such as antidepressant medication or talk therapy. It is considered a safe and well-tolerated treatment, with few side effects. Some people may prefer TMS as a non-drug treatment option for depression, as it does not have the potential for some of the side effects associated with antidepressant medications, such as weight gain or sexual dysfunction. It is also a relatively short-term treatment, with most courses of TMS lasting for 4-6 weeks. Overall, TMS is a promising treatment option for depression, and may be a good choice for those who are looking for non-drug alternatives to traditional antidepressant medications. If you are considering TMS for the treatment of your depression, it is important to speak with your doctor to determine if it is the right option for you.
